Ways for Faculty to Get Involved

Office of International Education - Faculty Resources
Marquette University currently has partnerships and faculty doing research in dozens of countries around the world from Poland to South Korea. The Office of International Education facilitates all of these partnerships and provides resources to faculty and students researching and traveling abroad.
International Research Poster Session
The goal of this event is to celebrate and encourage research on campus. We encourage research projects from across the University with the following objectives: showcase prospective faculty or student-led research projects and the ways in which faculty and students work together either directly or in a mentorship capacity; provide opportunities for researchers to interact with peers in other disciplines, form interdisciplinary partnerships, and plan new projects; encourage development of research and professional skills for undergraduate and graduate students; and demonstrate projects with an international component that is fully integrated into the research and plays a critical role in project success.
Center for Teaching and Learning - Workshops
The Center for Teaching and Learning offers a wide array of workshops to improve teaching practice, including teaching in multicultural and diverse classrooms.

Chinese-English Language Exchange

A program that connects Chinese language learners with international students from China. Through this program, students are able to learn language in an informal environment and bond with students from different backgrounds. Global Ambassadors Volunteer Program

The Office of International Education is looking for outgoing, involved, current students who have a strong desire to help promote and represent Marquette University as a Marquette Global Ambassador.

The role of a Global Ambassador is to help promote Marquette to prospective international students and their families through giving presentations at your high school, sending emails to admitted students, or sharing your experience with prospective students in monthly newsletters, on social media or through online chats. If you are interested in serving as a Global Ambassador, contact the Office of International Education at world@marquette.edu.

Peer Mentor Program

Each semester, OIE pairs new undergraduate international students with current Marquette undergrads that serve as peer mentors throughout the new students’ first semester. Peer mentors assist students by answering the many questions new students may have about life on campus, how to get a phone, where to go shopping, what there is to do in Milwaukee, and more. This program is meant to help international students feel welcome at Marquette and promote friendship among students with diverse backgrounds. Global Village
In celebration of community and goodwill, the Office of University Apartments, Office of International Education and International Business Studies created Global Village to help international exchange students adapt to life at Marquette.

Four students — two current undergraduates called “ambassadors” and two international exchange students — live together in a two-bedroom, furnished unit in Campus Town West, conveniently located across from campus.
Writing Center Conversation Partners
The English language learner (ELL) and the tutor talk--perhaps about questions that you have or topics that you are interested in, or by using some of our handouts to prompt discussion. The appointment isn't focused on writing, just talking. You can come by yourself, or schedule a small group appointment with one or two other English language learners and the tutor. As with writing conferences, you can schedule a 30- or 60-minute appointment.

International Day

Every spring, OIE invites Marquette's international students to spend a day sharing their culture with the broader Marquette community. This event includes over 700 students representing 67 countries. Individual students and cultural student organizations put together booths that educate staff and students about the countries and cultures that make up Marquette's global community. The event usually takes place in mid-February.

One does not need to be a recognized group to participate; a few students from the same country (or region) can host a table. Applications to participate are typically due around February 1st. If you are interested in participating or would like more information, please email world@marquette.edu or stop by the Office of International Education (Holthusen 4^th Floor) to obtain an application.

From excursions to the Milwaukee Art Museum to holiday celebrations, the Office of International Education offers a wide variety of programming open to all Marquette students. Check out the News and Events section on the OIE homepage for an up-to-date schedule of events.

International Education Week

Held the week before Thanksgiving each year, International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. It is through focusing on international perspectives and understanding that we become better collaborators, competitors and compassionate neighbors in today's global society. OIE celebrates by putting together a variety of international events throughout the week. Contact the Office of International Education at world@marquette.edu with any event ideas.

Cultural Student Organizations
Marquette is home to more than 300 student organizations, which includes 16 cultural students groups such as the Arab Students Association, the African Students Association, Club Global, and the Indian Student Association. To find them on the site, select the "cultural" category in the Categories menu.
Graduate Student Organization
The GSO represents all aspects of the graduate and professional student population at Marquette. They meet to discuss the specific concerns and needs of graduate students from various academic. The GSO also hosts various social events every month for graduate and professional students from more than 20 different departments and programs to meet.
