Zotero - Online Citation Manager: Organizing and Editing Content

Create Collections and Libraries

Add collections to your library by clicking on the manila folder icon. From there, name your new collection and add references. To add a new group library, select the brown folder. This will redirect you to Zotero.org where group libraries are managed.

Add Notes, Tags, Attachments

Add notes, tags, and attachments in two places on Zotero desktop: on the main menu and for an individual records. Add notes to contextualize your sources, and add tags to easily search for keywords, authors, topics, etc..

Note: you can add notes and tags to references in zotero.org by selecting and editing a reference.

Edit References

Imported references do not always supply all, or correct information. To edit the information for a certain reference, select the reference and the field you would like to edit. You can add authors, abstracts, and correct information on the info tab.

Change Your Preferences

To change your preferences, including which citation style to export for in-text citations and bibliographies, select edit on Zotero desktop and scroll down to "preferences". From here, you can choose a preferred citation style under "cite" and customize more settings.
