What is Copyright Law?

Copyright Law is perhaps the most controversial issue to arise in Multimedia Studies.  The saliency of Copyright Law and Fair Use has reached a fever pitch during the past decade due to the increasing digitization of audio and visual works.  The fluidity of instantaneous digital reproduction has made it easier than ever to break copyright laws and steal creative works.

Before embarking on any project that involves the use or appropriation of multimedia objects, it is imperative that individuals understand how they may legally use such items.

Watching the embedded videos featured below will provide a quick introduction to Copyright Law, Fair Use, and your legal and ethical responsibilities when utilizing any multimedia creation for your personal or academic use. The Raynor Memorial Libraries Copyright information website is a good place to start.
