Brainstorm for a Successful Search

  1. Select a database and search for the title of the work you're writing about. Example: Benito Cereno

  2. If that doesn't work, search for the author's name. Example: Herman Melville

  3. If that doesn't work, search for a concept that describes the themes of the work and/or a word that describes the era the work originated in or is about. Example: slave ship revolt

  4. If none of these work, try a different database.
