Corpus Research

Corpus (plural is corpora) research, also called computational linguistics, uses a large body of digital text to analyze grammar, syntax, or spoken discourse.

Good introductions will be found in Corpus Linguistics Beyond the Word and Corpus Linguistics: A Short Introduction. Also see the journal Corpus Linguistics and Linguistics Theory (online).

MICASE, The Michigan Corpus of Academic Spoken English, is a tagged, searchable and freely accessible corpus. The MICASE Handbook is recommended for potential users.

WordNet (Princeton) provides a lexical, semantically-annotated database for the English language.

The Linguist List (Web site) provides a comprehensive list of corpora.
