MARQCAT, and good subject headings

MARQCAT, the Marquette Libraries catalog, lists books, DVDs, videos, and CDs the library owns in print or electronic format.

To search for books on a topic: use the Search by drop-down menu and choose either Subject or Keyword.  Often, using both search types in a series of searches will give you the best results.

Here are a few subject headings that will be useful for this area of research:

Articles on Development

For development-related topics, the economics and business literature will be helpful, as will the literature of political science.  Below are our top choices for this subject area:

Books on the World Bank and IMF

Since the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are both heavily involved in economic development projects, here are some books about them. Be warned: they are both controversial organizations, either loved or hated!

You can also search for books that they have published.  But since there are so many, that will work better as a keyword search that includes other keywords (topical words).  For example:
world bank and microfinance.

Books on development, assistance, and aid

Annual reports of NGOs in this Field

Here are some of the annual reports produced by some of the big international organizations.  Often these reports will focus on a specific topic, in addition to the material that they report on every year.

Books about NGO's (non-governmental organizations)

Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Handbooks on Development

These are examples of the many reference books available about this subject. To find more see the box above:  "Find Encyclopedias, Dictionaries, Handbooks."
