Find Historical Maps in Books and Atlases at MU

To find historical maps of a place, follow these instructions in the Advanced Keyword Screen in the box below this one.  Adapt this sample search on historical maps of Europe to your own needs.

1.  Change the first two search windows to Subject by clicking on the dropdown arrow to the right of the box marked Any Field.

2.  Enter Maps in the first window.

3.  Enter Europe* in the second window.  The asterisk gets you both Europe and European.

4.  In the third window--which is still marked Any Field--enter histor*.  The asterisk gets you both history and historical.


To find historical maps of an event, follow these instructions in the Advanced Keyword Screen in the box below this one.  Adapt this sample search on historical maps of World War I to your own needs.

1.  Change the first search window to Subject by clicking on the dropdown arrow to the right of the box marked Any Field.

2,  Enter Maps in the first window.

3.  In the second window--which is still marked Any Field--enter "World War I."  The quotes get you those terms adjacent to each other in that order.
